Programs

As a regional organization, WRCOG is responsible for a variety of programs.

Transportation

WRCOG developed and administers Western Riverside County’s Transportation Uniform Mitigation Fee or TUMF. The TUMF program ensures that new development pays its fair share for the increased transportation demand that it creates. Fees paid by developers of residential, industrial, and commercial projects have raised hundreds of millions of dollars and are expected to raise over $5 billion over the life of the program.

WRCOG is also engaged in transportation issues of regional importance in the areas of goods movement, rail crossings, and growth.

Community

More than 40% of Riverside County’s workforce commutes to jobs elsewhere, more than half to jobs in Los Angeles and San Diego counties. WRCOG has initiated inter-regional partnerships for both the SR-91 and I-15 corridors to meet the challenges this daily migration poses for the region. These partnerships are attempting to forge more sustainable land uses by creating more affordable housing close to employment centers. Mixed use and infill developments and economic development efforts are essential ingredients in the strategies being developed.

Environment

Clean air, clean water, and less trash are the keystones of WRCOG’s environmental programs. WRCOG acts as the regional administrator for a variety of recycling and solid waste programs that focus on creating a cleaner environment as well as working to develop strategies for meeting regional clean air goals.
